  1. Where do you reside and work currently?  I have a very old farmhouse up on the hills in Bad Gleichenberg, Austria.
  2. Did you have any training or is what you do inherent?  It is inherent.
  3. Do you remember the first piece of art that you drew? Yes, I painted a camera when I was 5 years old.  That was when I started to make a drawing or a painting every day.
  4. When did you first start making art and what lead you to start?  It started with my first studio in Graz 1985. My intuition leads my art. And my strong emotions for colors. 
  5. What does Ely Magos dream about?  I dream a lot that is for sure. My main dream is a peaceful and a better world. And on a personal level my biggest dream is an exhibition near Paris ( Pantin ) in the gallery of Thaddäeus Ropac.
  6. Ely Magos, one word to describe him?  I am the Pi for my creative obsession, obsessed, ambivalent ( I know it’s not one word.)
  7. If you could go back in time and meet yourself when you were twenty, what would you tell yourself?  Go on, you do it well.
  8. What other types of art interest you?  Old signs and the old masters.
  9. How has your style changed over the years?  Yes, I have changed  over the years. So has my style. Now I am much more in the moment. That’s very intensive and strong.
  10. Do you first draw a mock-up? Only when I make bigger sculptures.
  11. What makes you decide a painting is finished? Intuition.
  12. What is the one thing you don’t know that you want to know? What or who was making the first material in the universe / cosmos ?
  13. What has the most influence on your work?  My mood, how I feel at the moment. Nothing else.
  14. Do you have a place/person/thing that you visit for inspiration? No. I have models when I paint nudes and I walk every day with my dog in the woods.
  15. If you could have dinner with 3 artists living/dead who would be at your table? Leonardo da Vinci, Picasso and Jackson Pollok.
  16. Name three things you can’t live without in your studio? Coffee, cigarettes, and my dog Shira.
  17. Anything else you’d like to mention that I didn’t ask? No thank you very much for the Interview.
